KartSport New Zealand was delighted to confirm to the CIK-FIA this week the names of 15 New Zealand drivers eligible for respective 2010 CIK-FIA World Cups for KZ1 (125cc gearbox, Senior drivers) and KF3 (125cc direct drive Junior drivers) to be contested in Braga, Portugal between September 09 and 12 this year..

The Kiwi drivers qualified based on their results at the annual CIK Trophy of New Zealand presented by EYEDE NZ event hosted by KartSport Wellington in February.

“This chance to compete overseas at the highest level is a great opportunity for our talented athletes” said KartSport New Zealand President, Lance Hickey. “These opportunities demonstrate the wisdom in ensuring we maintain international classes and technical specifications within our local class mix. Our drivers can compete overseas in similar equipment to that used locally.

"We are particularly encouraged by the inclusion of our KZ2 drivers for the 2010 KZ1 World Cup eligibility. This is the result of a recent request by KartSport New Zealand to the CIK-FIA. KZ1 karts are virtually identical to the KZ2 class run in New Zealand and many other countries.

"Together with the annual Yamaha prize drive in Japan for our national Yamaha Light champion and the three Rotax Max Challenge drives at the Rotax Grand Finals provided by Rotax, Kiwi karters now have ample opportunities to race overseas at world standard events.”

Over the last 12 months a number of Kiwi drivers have competed overseas with distinction including:

* Matthew Hamilton - 3rd Rotax Max Senior 2009 Rotax Max Grand Finals, Egypt

* The NZ Team (M. Hamilton, D. Kinsman, R. Urban, P. Booth) - 3rd Teams section 2009 Rotax Max Grand Finals, Egypt

* Arie Hutton - 2nd CIK-FIA Asia-Pacific Championships for KF3, Macau

* Daniel Bray - 16th KZ2 2009 SKUSA Supernationals, Las Vegas , USA

* Joshua Hart - 4th 2009 Rotax Max European Challenge Series, Senior class

* Mitchell Cunningham - 8th 2009 Australian CIK Championship Series, KF2

* Ryan Grant - 1st KZ2 class 2009 Horsepower Heaven meeting Melbourne , Australia

* Tyler Richardson - 6th F100 class 2009 AKA Australian Championships, Melbourne Australia .
