Rivals team up in Super Saloons

Midget rivals Jerry Coons Jr and Michael Pickens will not just team up at AmPro Tools Woodford Glen on Saturday night, they will also do it with a roof over their heads.

Both men will take part in a one off, Super Saloon race where they will go up against Woodford Glen veteran Dennis Bolt and newly crowned New Zealand Grand Prix Champion Ian Burson, of Nelson.
Coons Jr will be piloting the Value Cars Camaro, usually driven by Martin Harcourt, while Pickens will be stepping into the John Lovelady owned Mustang, which Brent Emerson has been driving this season.

The interesting race will be conducted in a pole shuffle format. Each driver having an opportunity in all four grid positions over three laps. Four points will be scored for a win down to one point for fourth.

Pickens will have an advantage over Coons Jar given that he’s been behind the wheel of a Lovelady Super Saloon on the Woodford Glen track a few seasons back but Coons Jr is excited about the race.

“I’m really looking forward to that, it’s going to be a lot of fun. It’s something different that I haven’t done before so it will be interesting,” Coons Jnr said of the Super Saloon experience.
