Cameron McConville is set to make a comeback to the V8 Supercar Championship Series at next week’s Sucrogen Townsville 400.
McConville will drive the Gulf Western Oils/Autopro Holden for V8 Supercar’s youngest team owner, 20 year old Lucas Dumbrell, replacing Daniel Gaunt.
Experienced V8 enduro drivers, Mark Noske and Nathan Pretty will then take over the #30 Commodore for the season’s annual endurance races at Phillip Island and Bathurst.
Dumbrell said he was making the change to bring more experience to his team, which is in its debut season in the V8 Supercar Championship and accelerate its move up the grid.
“This year has been hectic, an incredible experience for me and my young team,” Dumbrell said.
“We have finished every race which is pleasing, but I am constantly learning what a race team needs – and that for us at this point in time is drivers with experience.
“I would like to thank Daniel for his efforts and we wish him all the best with his future endeavours.”
McConville, who retired from fulltime driving at the conclusion of the 2009 season after a distinguished professional career, said he was looking forward to the challenge.
“To be honest, I’m pretty excited,” McConville said.
“I’ve had itchy feet to drive again since the round at Abu Dhabi last February.
“I am under no illusions though, as the short time I have been out of V8 Supercars it has again risen to another level.”
McConville, 36, made a guest appearance, driving the Jax Quickfit Tyres Commodore in the Fujitsu V8 Series at Winton in May, winning the round.
He is signed to drive for the Toll Holden Racing Team in the L&H 500 and the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000.
The Sucrogen Townsville 400 begins next Friday, 9 July.
