Scott Dixon finished the latest round of the IZOD IndyCar Series in second place to championship leader Will Power with team mate Dario Franchitti third. Power, who had set the fastest time in qualifying, led the most laps in the Grand Prix of Sonoma and held off a charging Dixon over the last part of the race.
Team Penske team mates Ryan Briscoe and Helio Castroneves were fourth and fifth with Justin Wilson sixth while Tony Kanaan finished seventh. Ryan Hunter-Reay, Graham Rahal and Alex Lloyd (season-best road/street frinish) completed the top 10.
Power's fifth victory of the season, supplemented by the three bonus points, gives the Team Penske driver a 59-point advantage over Franchitti with four ovals races left in the season. Dixon is a 95 points behind Power with four rounds left in the championship. All remaining rounds are ovals which should favour the Target Chip Ganassi Racing team as they try and overhaul Power.
The next round is the Peak Antifreeze and Motor Oil Indy 300 at Chigargolandspeedway this coming weekend, 7:00pm Saturday 27th August (local time).
