A big season of motorsport is looming at Teretonga Park in Invercargill with virtually all of the country's major motor racing categories scheduled to appear at the circuit over the course of the 2010/2011 season.
A slightly earlier start than in recent times will see the first action on the track over the weekend of 18/19 September. The season opener will serve up a varied line up with Endurance Racing, Pro 7s, motorcycles, karts and the first round of the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Series plus Sports & Racing Cars. The first day of the two day entertainment package, Saturday 18 September, will feature Round 2 of the South Island Endurance Racing Drivers Club Series. The series features a three hour race while a separate 1 hour race will also be held that day. Already, a strong field of cars including a Ferrari F430 Challenge, a Falcon V8 Supercar and several Porsche GT3s have indicated they will contest the series while the class entries are also extremely healthy. The following day, Sunday 19 September, will see a full day of racing for the other classes on the programme.
Clubmans Saloons and Sports & Racing Cars return for the second outing of the season on 7 November where they will be joined by both the Ford versus Holden Super 6 Saloon clash and the exciting Kumho Sport Saloons Series which promises closer competition than ever this season. This meeting also features the traditional A1 Auto Services 1 Hour Endurance Race.
Four weeks later and the final meeting prior to Christmas features a brilliant line up of machinery over the weekend of 4/5 December. The big, powerful, OSCA Saloons lead the way with most of the major South Island race classes also present. The Kumho Sport Saloons, Pre 65 Saloons, South Island Formula Ford Series, Super 6 Saloons, Pro 7s and Mini 7 South combine to make this a bumper meeting. The weekend will also produce the first appearance of the country's newest motor racing category - the Link STC Series. Organisers of the new series promise a category that allows reasonable freedom of modification that should prove very appealing to spectators. The Clubmans and Sports & Racing Cars are also on the programme to make this event an absolutely superb drawcard.
The New Year will begin as is traditional with the annual premier summer series meeting between 14-16 January. Headlined by the action of the NZV8s the Ford versus Holden battle is sure to attract another massive crowd to Teretonga. Backed up by the Toyota Racing Series, the Porsche GT3 Cup, Formula Ford, Suzuki Swift Sport Cup and the Production Racing Series this is always the biggest event of the season. An extra addition to the programme this year at the premier event is the V8 Ute Series so spectators will get another helping of spectacular Ford versus Holden rivalry with a display that only the V8 Utes can provide.
Hot on the heels of January's big meeting is the annual classic race meeting from the 18-20 February. The Evolution Motorsport Classic SpeedFest will undoubtedly feature another mouthwatering entry list including the long awaited return of the Formula 5000 cars to Teretonga.
All too soon the season grand finale will take place over the weekend of 19/20 March. Pre 65 Saloons, the second visit of the Link STC Series and South Island Formula Ford plus the final round of the Noel McIntyre Drainage Clubmans Series and Sports /Racing Cars bring down the curtain on what promises to be another glorious season at Teretonga Park.
The opening meeting in September plus those scheduled for November, December and March will be presented by Downer under a new sponsorship agreement with the Southland Sports Car Club.
