TKR to re-appear at Clipsail 500

Team Kiwi Racing will make a return to the V8 Supercar Championship this weekend at the Adelaide Clipsal 500.

TKR will blood 25-year-old Christchurch driver Matthew Hamilton in the Fujitsu Development Championship in Adelaide, campaigning the All Black BF Falcon prepared by Matthew White Motorsport, the winning team in last year’s series.

The kiwi team had looked at running their own operation completely but owner David John opted for the alliance with MW Motorsport, who are proven performers across the Tasman.

“We feel the alliance with MW Motorsport will give us a competitive machine from the start and with a proven race team behind it. They have four cars in the series and the sharing of data between all cars will be a real benefit,” Mr John said.

“It will allow us to concentrate on the business and ensure TKR can operate at a high standard both on and off the race track.”

John said he is excited about blooding another talented young New Zealand driver into the Australian championship.

Hamilton, who has campaigned with the TKR car in the BMW Mini championship in New Zealand over the summer, has quality credentials.

He finished third in the karting world championships in Egypt in December, and also tested in the Indy Lights in USA. He won the Lady Wigram Trophy, and has won 15 national karting titles.

Hamilton has enjoyed a successful summer with TKR in the BMW Mini, setting race records, several pole positions and race wins.

.

“This is a dream come true for me to get a start in a V8 Supercar and to be part of TKR as a Kiwi team that I have watched over the year,” Hamilton said.

“I am looking forward to working with the rest of the TKR crew and sponsors and want to make sure I make the most of this opportunity.”

Hamilton will drive the TKR Falcon for the first time on Thursday around the unforgiving streets of Adelaide with qualifying set for Friday, race one on Saturday and race two on Sunday.
