Wet conditions greet drivers for qualifying at Timaru

Leitch_Teretonga_10.jpg

Heavy drizzle greeted drivers and teams as they  arrived at Timaru International Raceway for Saturday morning qualifying at the Hampsta 200 meeting, the fourth round of the summer series.

Matt Halliday crashed out of the Battery Town Porsche GT3 Series qualifying session on the first warm up lap.  Cold tyres and slippery conditions saw him into the wall on the front straight without setting a time.  It will be ‘touch and go’ to whether his car will be ready for the first GT3 race this afternoon, timed to go at 3:15pm.  Craig Baird will start on pole with Aussie charger David Reynolds alongside him.

Mitch Evans is on pole for the Toyota Racing Series.  As the track got drier  throughout the twenty minute session, times and positions tumbled.  Initially it was a fight between Evans,  Sten Pentus, Lucas Foresti and Earl Bamber.  Bamber dropped back to seventh while Pentus will start alongside Evans with Foresti on row two with Daniel Jilesen.

BNT V8 qualifying gets underway at 4pm.

Cantabrian Matthew Hamilton was fastest in the MINI Challenge, Simon Sceats in the NZ Production, Damon Leitch in the Formula Fords and William Bamber in the Suzuki Swift Sport Cup class.
