Early success for Kiwi karters at Rotax Max finals

New Zealand's four-strong contingent of Rotax Max category karters has enjoyed a winning start at the 10th annual Rotax Max Challenge Grand Final meeting at the Ghibli Raceway in Egypt.

Three of the four - Aucklanders Ryan Urban and Daniel Kinsman, and Christchurch's Matthew Hamilton - won their Warm-Up races before progressing into the heat races.

In those Ryan Urban - competing in the premier DD2 class - scored the best result of a second place in the Groups B & D heat, backing up his fourth place finish in the early A & B one.

Junior class competitor Daniel Kinsman was next best with a fifth in his A & C heat and a seventh in his C & D.

Matthew Hamilton also did well in the Senior class with an ninth place finish in his A & B heat and an 11th in the B & D one.

New Zealand's other representative, Dunedin's Paul Booth,  remains back in the body of the pack in the DD2 class after being denied a qualifying time - meaning he had to start his heat races from the back row of the grid - over a misunderstanding on carburettor jet sizes.

He finished 30th in the DD2 warm-up then 26th in his first qualifying heat and 28th in his second.

Action at the Ghibli Raceway continues today with the Pre-Finals and Finals tomorrow (Saturday).
