Whincup first at Hidden Valley

bc_HD9R4958_Whincup.jpg

Team Vodafone's Jamie Whincup notched up his first win at the Hidden Valley Raceway, Darwin,  this afternoon heading off Mark Winterbottom and Will Davison.

Whincup seemed to always have the race within his grasp, particularly after starting on grid two and getting the jump on Jason Richards.

Richards had previously put his Team BOC Commodore on pole but could not deliver this into a podium finishing seventh.

“ Our race strategy was good, the boys gave me a great pit stop to jump HRT in pit lane. Although the car didn’t have the pace of the first two early in the race, we were quick on the hard tyre until something broke on the front left of the car with 3 laps to go when I was running second. The car wouldn’t turn or stop and it was obviously disappointing to give up a possible podium so close to the end of the race.”
