The prospect of the fastest saloon cars in the land racing for the inaugural Ron Silvester Memorial Trophy at Powerbuilt Tools International Raceway opening promoted meeting of the season is mouth-watering to say the very least.
The Silvester family has been very supportive of honouring Rons name in what is destined to become an exciting and eagerly anticipated event to headline the seasons opening meeting each year. Ron Silvester was a Life Member of the Canterbury Car Club and was also synonymous with the early days of Allcomers Saloons in the South Island. Rons 38 Chev Coupe is an even more recognized memorial of his love of motorsport and is proudly paraded by son Grant as a special treat for spectators at the SKOPE Classic each year.
The feature race will be an invitational event for high performance normally aspirated engines, rotaries, turbos and also an originals component, featuring cars which raced in the OSCA series in the 70s and 80s. Therefore expect anything from TransAms, Porsche, Rx7s, Ford and Holden V8s to the potent and nimble Japanese turbos, adulterated hybrids and everything in between, as long as it is a saloon and quick!
The format is yet to be finalised but is likely to consist of qualifying, a top ten shoot out, a sprint race and the feature Trophy race of 12 or 15 laps all squeezed in to a Sunday quick fire race programme.
Proudly sponsored by Dominos Pizzas, look forward to the Ron Silvester Memorial Trophy and Endurance Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November 2009.
