Although his Penske team mate Ryan Briscoe led for most of the race it was Helio Castroneves who took victory in the Bombardier Learjet 550 at Texas Motor Speedway, again a vital final pit stop determined who came out in front and led to the chequed flag.
The latest round of the IndyCar series was run under lights, late Saturday evening. Scott Dixon finished third slipping to second in the championship three points behind Briscoe.
Briscoe, for the second week running was the dominant driver leading for 160 laps out of the 228 completed. Last week at Milwaukee he led for 154 of 175 laps. But is was the final pit stop when all top drivers pitted for the final time that saw Castroneves win the rush to exit in the lead. Briscoe took second while Dixon slotted into third. This is the way they finished with Helio climbing the fence in his traditional manor.
After three consecutive weekends of racing the series now takes a two week break before heading to Iowa Speedway on the 21st June 09.
