Lockwood ready to defend his NZV8 Ute title

Matt Lockwood, the inaugural winner of the ENZED V8 Ute Series is looking forward to the first meeting of the second series at his home track, Manfeild, this weekend.

The combination of classes at this meeting means Matt will be racing both a VU Holden in the Ute Series and a Series 6 RX7 in the Pro7 Plus Series. “I originally thought the Utes and Pro7 classes would not clash but it’s worked out that I’m running in both classes at 4 of the meetings during the season”

Matt had his first run in the Pro7 Plus class a few weeks ago at Taupo where he won two races, was third in the reverse grid race, won the meeting and set a new lap record that he subsequently broke in the last race.

The Manfeild meeting will keep Matt busy with 2 races on Saturday and 5 races on Sunday. His closest competitors Simon Beirne, Mack Peach and Caine Lobb are all returning and the young 20 year old is expecting tough competition as he attempts to win his second title in his third year of circuit racing.
